Alexander Maslov

About

Classical and jazz pianist, composer, laureate of various international competitions, professor at the St. Petersburg State Conservatory named after N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov, soloist of the Great Novgorod Philharmonic named after A.S. Arensky.

Education

In 2003- 2005 he studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover under Professor Vladimir Krainev.
In 2010 graduated from St. Petersburg State Conservatory, in 2013 accomplished his postgraduate studies under Professor Leonid Zaychik. 

Awards

Alexander Maslov is the prizewinner of many prestigious Russian and International competitions:

  • VI International Vladimir Krainev piano competition (Ukraine, 2002, I prize and two special prizes);
  • XXII International “Valsesia Musica” Piano Competition (Italy, 2006, IV prize);
  • All-Russian piano competition in Ruza (2006, II prize);
  • III Anton Rubinstein International Piano Competition in Dresden (Germany, 2007, II prize and special prize);
  • I All-Russian piano competition in Moscow (2010, II prize).

Career

Since 2013 is a Professor at the St. Petersburg State Conservatory piano department. In 2023 becomes a soloist of the Great Novgorod Philharmonic named after A.S. Arensky. He regularly performs in the best concert halls of Russia and abroad.

Concert activities

Alexander Maslov performs at the best concert halls of St. Petersburg, Moscow and other Russia cities. He gave concert tours in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Belgium, Italy, Poland, Denmark, Finland, Moldova, Ukraine, Israel, China, Japan and Peru. Alexander Maslov was invited to perform at different music festivals such as Rheingau Musik Festival (Germany), International week in Graz (Austria). He also participated in such festivals as “Stars of White Nights” and International Conservatory Week (St. Petersburg).

In addition to solo performances, A. Maslov regularly performs as part of the ensembles he created: Alexander Maslov Jazz Trio (piano, double bass, drums) and Banda Classicoff (piano, vocals, saxophone, accordion, double bass, vibraphone, drums).

The author of You Tube Channel and Instagram blogger teaching major principles and subtle aspects of jazz improvisation.

The author of the book "Fundamentals of piano jazz improvisation" (2016).

Composer activity

Apart from performing and educational activities Alexander Maslov successfully realizes his composer talent creating jazz adaptations of classics (Schumann, Grieg, Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Khachaturian, etc.) and cinema music ("The Great Gatsby", "Aladdin", "La La Land")

He presents his works in different versions: for piano solo, piano and orchestra and for jazz trio (piano, double bass and drums) Alexander Maslov also performs his own pieces (both for piano solo and piano and orсhestra) «Happy New Year Fantasy», «Peruvian Fantasy – La Flor de la Canela», «Belgian Suite», Prelude and fugue and others.
