Jazz Trio

Alexander Maslov’s Trio is a well-known Saint-Petersburg ensemble playing jazz adaptations of classics. The musicians perform Alexander Maslov’s versions of The Nutcracker (by Tchaikovsky) and Spartacus (Khachaturian), fantasias on Glinka’s, Borodin’s and Rimsky-Korsakov’s operas.

Since 2021 the musicians have been working together with Imperial Orchestra in Cinema Medley project performing the following soundtrack adaptations: Great Gatsby fantasia, La La Land and Alladin suites. The concerts were a great success in Crocus City Hall (Moscow), M-1 and Sporting arenas (Saint-Petersburg).

In 2017 The Trio produced the first album Between Classics & Jazz, which contained jazz adaptations of Beethoven’s, Shuman’s, Borodin’s, Glinka’s and Tchaikovsky’s works.

The ensemble works in cooperation with different symphonic and chamber orchestras and well-known Russian conductors.

Alexander Maslov (Piano)

Classical and jazz pianist, composer, laureate of various international competitions, professor at the St. Petersburg State Conservatory named after N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov, soloist of the Great Novgorod Philharmonic named after A.S. Arensky.

In 2003- 2005 he studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover under Professor Vladimir Krainev.

In 2010 graduated from St. Petersburg State Conservatory, in 2013 accomplished his postgraduate studies under Professor Leonid Zaychik.  Alexander Maslov is the prizewinner of many prestigious Russian and International competitions:

• VI International Vladimir Krainev piano competition (Ukraine, 2002, I prize and two special prizes);
• XXII International “Valsesia Musica” Piano Competition (Italy, 2006, IV prize);
• All-Russian piano competition in Ruza (2006, II prize);
• III Anton Rubinstein International Piano Competition in Dresden (Germany, 2007, II prize and special prize);
• I All-Russian piano competition in Moscow (2010, II prize).

Alexander Maslov performs at the best concert halls of St. Petersburg, Moscow and other Russia cities. He gave concert tours in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Belgium, Italy, Poland, Denmark, Finland, Moldova, Ukraine, Israel, China, Japan and Peru.

He performs with world-known orchestras, including St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, The Orchestra of Mariinsky Theatre, St. Petersburg Cappella Symphony Orchestra, The Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, Polish Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra, Peruvian Symphony Orchestra “Ciudad de los Reyes”, Symphony Orchestra of Milan Giuseppe Verdi. The pianist cooperates with famous conductors such as: V. Gergiev, V. Sinayskiy, A. Chernushenko, A. Titov, I. Verbitsky, M. Tatarnikov, A. Shakh, A. Polyanichko, V. Ponkin, L. Dunaev.

Ivan Myasnikov (contrabass)

Graduated from Saint-Petersburg Conservatory in 2014.

Since 2009 he has been working as an orchestra musician at Saint-Petersburg State Academic Chapel.

He also performed as a guest musician in Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra (2013), Saint-Petersburg Philarmonic Orchestra (2014), chamber orchestras and ensembles and jazz bands.

Pavel Chizhik (drums & vibraphone)

Graduated from Saint-Petersburg Conservatory in 2016. He is a permanent performer in the biggest concert halls of the city.

He became a prize winner of numerous musical competitions and festivals and among them a prestigious “Autumn Marathon” held by Jazz Philarmonic Society. In 2015 he took the first prize in percussion competition in nomination of vibraphone.

Pavel is capable of playing both classics and jazz, he is also an author of compositions and arrangements of his own. He is a regular participant of «Petrojazz» festival.
